VETO TO NATIONALISM
EMBARGO TO MILITARISM
OUT OF NATO
Peace activists and anti-militarists from Greece and Republic of Macedonia are meeting in
Skopje on the 17th of May 2008 for public discussion and debate in hotel Continental
starting at 13:00h., followed by a street demonstration from the hotel – Army home -
Monument of children refugees in Woman Park. Both activities aim to present an alternative
picture to the recent political conflict between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia. The
purpose of this joint effort is to present to the general audience that there are people from
both sides that desires cooperation, tolerance and understanding between the two populations.
In addition, the meeting will manifest the opposition from peace activist from both Greece and
the Republic of Macedonia to recent rise of militarism, nationalism and put the commitment to
social justice in these countries centre stage.
We, as peace activists from these two countries would like to raise our voices in a joint
effort to contrast the recent picture portrayed by our countries’ politicians and media; of an
unjust power balance mainly focusing on the importance of militarism with an inevitable
outcome of the rise of nationalism in both countries and an increase of antagonism between
the two neighbours.
Instead, we call for alternatives to a relationship based on violence between our
countries and push for peaceful cooperation based on solidarity and tolerance. The common
ground we have established is based on the following beliefs that we share:
· We are opposed to any military co-operation, including the North Atlantic Treaty
Organisation (NATO), and seek for non-violent alternatives to build a world of peace.
· We believe in the self-determination of all people. In addition, we strive for peaceful
relationship between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia based on solidarity and
friendship among people.
· We demand the recognition of the ethnic majority and minority rights of the people
living inside of the Republic of Macedonia and minority rights of the people in Greece.
· We demand the recognition and the protection of the languages of the two countries,
the official and the minority ones, due to the belief that every language carries a
cultural heritage and importance, thus should be protected.
· We insist on the freedom of the movement of the people, both in terms of the opening
of borders between the two countries as well as the freedom of political refugees from
Greece, now living in the Republic of Macedonia or elsewhere, to be able to return to
their country of origin.
· In addition, we believe that it is of great importance that people from Greece and the
Republic of Macedonia work on joint efforts related to the creation of a sustainable and
lasting peace. Our ambition is to develop and work on initiatives relevant to the
current context of our societies focusing on cooperation through non-violent methods.

КРАТКИ БИОГРАФИИ НА ГОВОРНИЦИТЕ НА ЈАВНАТА ДЕБАТА

Сиси Вовоу
е левичарска феминистка. Активно учествувала во многу кампањи против
национализмот, милитаризмот и војната. Активна е во Грчкиот Социјален Форум од
неговото основање и пред тоа, во повеќе колективи на антиглобалистичкото
движење. Била член на Антивоената Антинационалистичка Кампања на Грција која
во годините 1991 – 1996 се борела најмногу против национализмот развиен во
Грција околу Македонското прашање и следствено, заедно со Европското
антивоено движење, против војната во Босна, воедно поддржувајќи го развојот на
мултиетничките општества и правото на само-определување. Била во мисија на
солидарност во Република Македонија во 1993 и активна против Грчкото ембарго.
Пишува постојано за повеќе релевантни теми, воглавном за весникот „Епохи“
Демостенис Пападатос – Анагностопоилос
е роден во Атина во 1982. Дипломирал Филозофски Факултет и постдипломски
студии на Политички Науки и Социологија на Универзитетот на Атина. Учествувал
во граѓанското движење (окупациите) во 1998-99 против законот на Арсенис, бил
член на Грчкиот комитет за Интернационалните демонстрации во Џенова во 2001,
учествувал на основачката конференција на Европскиот Социјален Форум, како и
во активностите на Грчкиот Социјален Форум, од основањето до денес, како и во
студентското движење на окупации против реформите на членот 16 од Уставот на
Грција (кој се однесува на јавниот карактер на високото образование). Член е на
Централниот Совет на Комитетот за Човекови Права на Младината на Синасписмос.
Објавува написи во повеќе публикации на Левицата и во локалниот печат.
Ивица Антески (1976)
е новинар, поет, блогер... Работи како заменик главен уредник и колумнист во
дневниот весник Шпиц. Работел како новинар и уредник во Дневник, Нова
Македонија, Македонија денес, Време, Форум плус. Објавувал книжевни критики и
есеи во повеќе списанија. Досега има објавено четири збирки поезија. Негови
песни се преведувани на англиски, романски, хрватски, словенечки, српски,
албански, бугарски и на влашки јазик.
Кире Василев
е роден на 01.01.1983 во Битола. Завршил политички науки на универзитетот „Св.
Кирил и Методиј“ во Скопје. Работи за Националниот Механизам за Упатување на
Жртви од Трговија со Луѓе. Претходно работел и во Институтот за Демократија,
Солидарност и Цивилно Општество (IDCSC). Активно учествувал во повеќе
активности: студентски протести - 2007; „Не пиеме нафта“-иницијативата за
повлекување на македонските војници од Ирак и Авганистан; Анти-НАТО протест
„Против Нато! Против Македонија во НАТО“.
